Artists & Business People

For those who don’t know, I was lucky enough to get an associate from a previous venture involved in my dreams of taking Deeper History to the next level. My partner has vastly exceeded my expectations in terms of commitment and results.

There are, of course, road bumps. One of the biggest challenges for me has been loosing total control over the direction of my art. For anyone who attempts to transform their art into a business, this can be a difficult thing to do. There is always the temptation to under value, or not value at all, the contributions of your non-artist partners.

I think for any artist who begins to work partners who are strictly business, there are always whispers of  “They can’t do what I do, so how can they tell me what to do?” As artists, we must quiet those whispers by realizing that in many ways, we can not, or are unwilling, do what our business partner’s do.

  1. You got to look at business people as your servants.Listen to their advice, but remember they are there to get you the money. Hold on to your vision. If the president wants to come down to the kitchen at 3 AM he doesn’t expect a lesson- in politics or kitchen cleanliness- from the cook. Cook is there ’cause she likes food. Period. At the same time the Prez got to keep his ear open to the people and they’s needs; that’s for sure. . /:\#
